Implementation of groundwater protection measures, particularly resource-directed measures in South Africa: a review paper

Abstract This review paper on groundwater protection measures in South Africa focuses the actual implementation of measures, particular, resource-directed (RDM) as described Chapter 3 National Water Act (NWA). Significant catchment-wide RDM has taken place a phased manner throughout various catchments since 2012. By 2015, approximately R380 million had been expended water resource over period 15 years. Considerable effort went into refining methodology, taking account component overall resource. In this paper, we contend that RDM, its present form, will not make significant contribution to and security country. is major concern because Groundwater Strategy Department Human Settlements, Sanitation (DHSWS) declared national priority. also examines institutional governance arrangements (or lack thereof) well providing recommendations support effective provisions prescribed by Africa's legislation.
